From the Galley - HURD's DEEP FRITTATA

From the Galley - HURD's DEEP FRITTATA

Published: Friday, 17 May 2013

This dish is really a cross between the French dish Tartiflette, Spanish dish Tortilla and a Frittata. Called Hurd's Deep as I was making it one day when we saw a 35 foot basking shark off Alderney near Hurd's Deep Channel, so the names stuck ever since! This takes about 30 minutes to make and depending upon how hungry you are will feed 2 very hungry people. I'm ashamed to say we eat this in 15 minutes.

Cats have been found aboard ships since early times, accompanying explorers, merchants and navies. Popular for rodent control, the cat would get the rat before the rats and mice could eat the crew’s food supply or any edible cargo. They also offered companionship to the crew when away on long voyages and many were seen as a lucky mascot.

An Easter egg is a secret message or hidden feature in a film, book or in computer software. The idea is that once you know there is one to be found, you may hunt for it the way you would look for eggs in an Easter egg hunt.
