Jack Lucas - Boatshed Guernsey
Born in February, I certainly live up to my star sign, being an Aquarius; I don’t mind what I am doing as long as it is near, on, or in the sea! From just 6 weeks old my parents took me on my first overseas trip to our neighboring island of Herm, my favorite place in the world, within the Bailiwick of Guernsey, in the Channel Islands, and since then my love for the sea has grown. I grew up on my parents Princess 266 typically named “Jumpin Jack” after me, by my brother. We spent many holidays over the years in the Channel Islands and visiting the adjacent French Coastline, before our parents sold the boat at the age of 10 to take us further around the world.
Living in Guernsey however, we are only 5 minutes from the sea in any direction and it wasn’t long before my brother and I went on to purchase a few small fishing boats, to get back out on the sea. Anyone who has sailed in the Channel Islands knows we have some of the most challenging waters in the UK,so what a better place to get our independent experience. I bought my first ‘real’boat, a Bayliner Trophy 1803 Center Console in 2012 after leaving college where I gained my RYA Day skipper and Yacht master qualifications. I then went on to buy my current boat, a Robalo R180, at the London boat show in 2014.
After leaving school I started work at a small family friend’s business dealing with school uniform and corporate embroidery and had the idea of setting up an electronics repair business, this has since boomed and 5 years later I now manage and run the company. With this being my job 9-5pm, 5 days a week, any other time is spent in or around the water.
I also have a interest in photography and as many of you will see, my partner and I have launched a new page to showcase our aerial photography with our new drone, so fingers crossed we can get some good shots of your boat from above! Being a keen diver, I am currently working towards my scuba instructor qualifications and also enjoy fishing, and other water sports, including wake-boarding.
Having been to nearly every boat show at Southampton and London since buying my boat, I was keen to get into the Boating Industry, in February my partner treated me to a trip to the Miami boat show, and we confirmed, it was something I wanted to get in to. I got in touch with Chrissie and the team at Boatshed HQ and now hope to make a new platform for sales of boats in Sunny Guernsey!
