Broker's Comments
The Oysterman 16 is based on the designs of the Falmouth sailing dredgers, which are built for north oyster dredging under sail and serious racing in the off-season. For this reason they are designed with powerful sailing rigs and extra ballast, producing a pleasingly sturdy and fast boat under sail. They have good sized cockpits and cuddy interiors, with plenty of space on deck and below, for this size of boat.
This version is a tidy example of the gaff sloop. When visiting the boat, it presents as clean and well looked after, with woodwork that is in good condition. A new furling gib was provided in 2017, followed by a new mast in 2018. This boat looks ready to go and would be an ideal opportunity for single handed sailing, as a starter boat and equally for entusiasts of the design and racing. The interior coud be modified to include a galley and heads space, but is still sufficent for the occasional night or two away from harbour.
